One of my ministry pet peeves as a college minister is the lack of involvement the students have over what is being taught. By this I mean that in college ministry, the students sometimes do not get to provide input into what they see on campus and have relevant teaching on how to approach it or think about it. To try and combat this, I always ask my students what they would like to tackle in the next semester. This allows me, the one that does most of the teaching, to prepare at least a month in advance. This semester they wanted to learn about some of the non-Christian religions and chose, Latter Day Saints (Mormonism), Hinduism, and Buddhism. This week is Hinduism and let me tell you, I have never been more confused by a religion. Although there was confusion, it was definitely exciting because of the connection it has to one of my favorite movies, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which takes place in India. The film features references to Shankara, Shiva, and Thuggee all of which are actual things related to Hinduism.
